Do you Hackathon?

Last weekend Helsinki surprised all with organizing successfully Junction Hackathon, the biggest of its kind in the Nordics. From now on it will become an annual event. The hackathon brought together 500 students, developers, designers and engineers. All of the above came together under one roof with an idea to create something new.

For some who doesn't know, a hachathon is organized in order to bring enthusiasts and companies together for generating new ideas. Hackathons are organized everywhere, almost every weekend there is one, where you can challenge yourself. Anyone can apply for participation and you can go with a group or alone, in which case there will be other teams to join in. Couple of reasons to visit a hackathon: get to play with hardware and APIs, meet companies, see the latest development, meet new people, get to see what you are capable of in a limited time and maybe win a prize. On Junction prizes did vary a lot (from credit on Amazon cloud to robotics and the newest hardware), but the finalists of the main categories get to pitch their ideas on Slush event, which is happening this week in Helsinki.
